GEM hosts and facilitates weekly community mentoring session to young adults within the community. These weekly group sessions focus on: local & national topics, poll topics through mentors and mentees, mental health, and education. The goal is to start relevant conversations that youth will take back into their school, home, and community to continue the conversation and spark change.
GEM’s Community Mentoring program is the staple of all its programs offered. Every Wednesday night from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm mentors are present to give a panel of perspectives on the night’s topic, which can range from respect for self and others to the country’s political state. There is no one person who can reach all, so the team approach to these group sessions afford mentees the opportunity to find and create mentor/ protégé relationships where they feel most comfortable with whomever they create a bond.

The Culture of Arts program welcomes youth (11-18) to be a part of an after-school program that allows students to experience increased confidence, improved complete awareness about their future, and belongingness to a community through arts and life skills.
GEM provides a safe space for youth to express themselves through music and art. Understanding music and art increase one’s ability to understand the tone, customs, and interests of a community. It also provides a channel to constructively share one’s point of view on topics that make them feel a spectrum of emotions. Social interaction is created in order to foster community through healthy and constructive communication, while practicing listening, formulating thoughts, questions, support, and debates. Youth practice transferable skills such as being fully present, and critical thinking skills that they can use to handle a multitude of situations in their future.
The Culture of Arts program is unfunded.
In today’s job market, education can give an applicant a competitive edge; however, a formal degree is not the only path. Those with little or no post-secondary education can take advantage of professional certifications, or licensing programs in order to get an advantage over the competition. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2012, 11.2 million adults aged with a high school diploma or less held a professional certification or license. Jobs in fields such as cosmetology, construction, nursing, and education require specific training. Certificates and licenses offer ways to bypass the commitment and financial investment of a full degree program, while still offering invaluable training and required skills for in-demand careers. With this information in mind, Glover EmpowerMentoring (GEM) is providing pathways to employment for young adults ages 18 to 24 through our Diamond Workforce Development program
